Berber guesthouse for relaxation, leisure, mountain trekking, meeting the people … (trekking in Morocco)

The main entrance

Our Berber house is situated on the outskirts of the village of Afensou, alone on the hillside above a lush green valley. It is just upstream from a perennial underground spring, making it a good site as it supplies us with fresh water and also guarantees good swimming in the foaming mountain stream below!

The house is built of earth and stone in the purest Berber style, with flat earthen roofs supported by carved wooden beams. The house has four storeys, several inner courtyards and a number of galleries and terraces.

With its views over the wadi, fields and olive groves, it is itself overlooked by the three peaks of the western High Atlas, reaching over 3500 metres. The 180-degree panorama is magnificent (and even more so if you set off on a trek, which is easy in the Atlas Mountains – trekking in Morocco).

The gardens include rows of man-made terraces, where there are lots of fruit trees and aromatic plants amongst other things.
